Know Your Rights
- The right to select the registered shop of your choice to repair your car.
In Massachusettes you have the right to select the auto body shop of your choice. Even if your insurer gives you a list of suggested repair shops, you are not obligated to choose from that list.
- You do not have to take your car to a drive-in claims center to be inspected by your insurer.
If you request it, your insurer must inspect the damage to your car at your chosen repair shop.
- You do not need to get two or three appraisals.
Notify your agent or insurance company when you have a claim. your insurer's adjuster must inspect the damage at any convenient location. If your car is safe to drive, and your insurance company has a drive-in claims service, you may be asked to take it there. Or, it may be easier for you to have the insurance adjuster examine your vehicle at the shop of your choice. At that location, there should be the necessary equipment to make an accurate assessment of the damage. At that time, your insurer and repairer may be able to directly negociate a mutually agreeable cost of repair.
